Japanese culture raised the talent to remodel things to an art, as we demonstrated the ikebana and origami. Therefore, this great city could not resist this art and created a new concept of ice sculptures and snow, the Yuki Matsuri, the Sapporo Snow Festival. The city has managed to create their own winter festival, where every year thousands of people come together to view and create magnificent sculptures of snow and ice. One of the most popular and famous sculptures at the festival is the Pieta, which creates its own glow of snow and ice. Other sculptures repeated each year are the statues of famous people and places that shine in the snow. Some of these sculptures are so big that tour groups may enter quietly in a palace made of ice, and see statues of characters from the television. To this curious display are used more than 38,000 tons of snow and ice.
