England is full of ancient castles that once belonged to kings, queens, dukes and counts. Many are still used as a summer home, while others have become museums or tourist attractions. Some of these castles are not only famous for its architectural beauty, if not known by the mysterious legends of ghosts who dwell within its walls.
Arundel is a small town in West Sussex in the UK. This city is known for its narrow cobblestone streets, its traditional market and Arundel Castle.
The stately old castle dates back to 1068, and was built by King William the Conqueror. The castle now had a fortress on the River Arun.
Arundel Castle has undergone major changes over the years. For example, in the year 1132, during the visit of the Empress Matilda, it was built a new wing to the castle to accommodate the Empress and her servants. Centuries later, in 1846, the castle was honored with the presence of Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert. Parts of the rooms were renovated for the royal visit, the pictures were changed, and the royal apartments are furnished with Victorian furniture. Another enchanted castle is Chillingham Castle, a medieval castle by the year 1298 was a monastery. Originally, the castles were on the border between two warring states, England and Scotland.
