The city hosted the Winter Olympics in 1972. Your TV tower is a symbol of the city and from there one can see the entire downtown.

Japanese culture raised the talent to remodel things to an art, as we demonstrated the ikebana and origami. Therefore, this great city could not resist this art and created a new concept of ice sculptures and snow, the Yuki Matsuri, the Sapporo Snow Festival. The city has managed to create their own winter festival, where every year thousands of people come together to view and create magnificent sculptures of snow and ice. One of the most popular and famous sculptures at the festival is the Pieta, which creates its own glow of snow and ice. Other sculptures repeated each year are the statues of famous people and places that shine in the snow. Some of these sculptures are so big that tour groups may enter quietly in a palace made of ice, and see statues of characters from the television. To this curious display are used more than 38,000 tons of snow and ice. The festival dates back to 1950, and other sculptors work for several weeks to create thousands of objects of ice before the festival begins in February.

In this curious city, full of all the possible sculptures made of snow and ice, a stroll through its vast parks and enjoy various winter sports. The city hosted the Winter Olympics in 1972 and therefore has many facilities for skiers and other sports. The curious can visit the Sapporo Dome, the sports palace which was built for the Winter Olympics.

Sapporo is also known for its flavored ramen noodles and miso, a delight to be tested in almost all its restaurants and its famous beer. One can visit the best restaurants at an affordable price and sample the best local delights or stroll through the largest entertainment district of the city, Susukino. It is also recommended to visit the breweries of the region where you can taste the beer in Sapporo.

Sapporo is a city famous for its many festivals, museums and theaters. One of the most important concert halls is the Concert Hall Kitara in Sapporo which is in the Nakajima Park, where the orchestra usually performs in the city. For the most massive concerts outdoors, as the Pacific Music Festival, is the Sapporo Artpark.

Museums also are an important part of the culture of the city. In this city include Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Sculpture in Sapporo. There are also a multitude of museums dedicated to different schools of art and museums dedicated to literature or beer. The Sapporo Convention Center is one of the largest convention centers where they are organizing various forums and exhibitions.

Sapporo is undoubtedly a very green city and has many parks. Among them are the Odori Park, the park Nakajima and Maruyama Park. Visitors can climb Hitsujigaoka hill, the observatory of the city, where a magnificent view opens to Sapporo.

There is so much to do in Kyoto that you will struggle to choose. It has seventeen UNESCO world heritage sites, making it rich with culture and steeped in historical wonders. So you need to prioritise, and choose what you really want to see, otherwise you will leave disappointed.

Visit Heian Jingu, the shrine built to mark the cities 1100 birthday. It is designed to be a scaled down replica of the Imperial Palace, and the gardens are scaped fantastically to make them stunningly eye-catching. The best time to visit the shrine is at New Year, when the grounds fill with ladies clad in kimonos, and the culture flourishes.

Stay in a traditional eastern hotel, where the bed is at floor level, and the breakfast is a mix of fish. sushi, rice and miso style soup. It makes a great change from what we have decided is normal in the western world, and is really yummy!

Visit the Monkey Park Iwatayama for something completely different; the monkeys are free from cages or pens, and there are almost 200 wandering around happily. If you want to trek up to the enclosure you can feed the monkeys, but it’s a great place to go for the afternoon.

Kennin-ji is the city’s oldest Zen temple, and well worth a visit when you are in the country. The highlights are the gardens, and the dragon ceiling that is so beautiful to gaze up at. It does attract a lot of tourists, and there is a kindergarten nearby, so it may not be the tranquil place of worship that it once was.

Try the Ii museum to see the samurai helmets, swords and armour, crammed into this tiny little townhouse. See some really unusual exhibits, and immerse yourself in the Japanese history.

What are you waiting for? If you’re tired of holidaying in the west, take a trip to the east! Grab your Travel Insurance, passport and get on the flight.

A high level of business attracts entrepreneurs, and by default, filled with hotels, restaurants, and promotes the development of the city. Something they know very well the most important cities on the planet. To measure the power of a city, there is an index that has been released recently. Mori Memorial Foundation of Japan hits a Powerful Cities World Index, and as expected, there are not many surprises. New York is the most valued of doing business, besides being a consolidated center of innovation. New York, is the foremost reference city worldwide in the artistic, research, and of course to visit. Next in order of importance, London, Paris, Tokyo and Singapore.

However, other cities than in areas more specific. For example, London is the city’s leading cultural events, while Tokyo is among the powerful cities, the most sustainable in its environmental policies.

The study was conducted based on 35 major cities worldwide, categorized according to a criterion that attempts to measure the “power” of the city according to categories ranging from economy, innovation, cultural activity, sustainability, liveability and accessibility. To arrive at a valuation with some precision, we evaluate the infrastructure and services, and evaluative consultations take place among persons of eminence from different countries. Of course, after much study, the final result is not too many surprises.
